55 years ago this week, my parents were married.
Each and every March these annual events passed, unnoticed and unmarked by we children.
There was never a fuss over celebrating the event. I have a vague recollection that my Dad used to buy Mum a piece of jewellery every year, but I could easily be imagining this.
By the time we were old and mature enough to finally realise the significance of the longevity and tenacity of our parents’ marriage, its momentum was stopped in its tracks.
My Mother’s abrupt death came just short of their Golden Wedding Anniversary. For 50 incredible years, from the early bloom of youth right up to to her final moments, they had been side by side.
I remain in awe of their achievement, and I will forever be in awe of their parenting.
Happy Anniversary, Mum and Dad. I still count the years on my calendar as they continue to clock up in my mind, and I will continue to do so until they are together again one day.
A lovely post. My grandparents marriage was similar, my mother’s and mine less so!
Tell me about it, Nikki……..How did they do it, eh?! Thanks for saying Hello!
What a lovely tribute.
Aww so sweet! Happy Anniversary to your mom and dad!
Thanks Teresa!
As a crazy cat lady (ha) I have to ask, is their a special significance to the black cat figure in the wedding photo?
Yes. It was give to my mum as a lucky charm on the morning of the wedding by someone! She kept it forever, in fact I think my dad may still have it! Thanks for stopping by
