This post is part of a weekly series of ‘link-up’ Posts which reflect on life’s journey, old memories and family stories (see below for more info).
Having stared in to the precipice of your ‘hair fails through the ages’ last week, I thought we’d keep it light today. I can’t take any more curly perms.
So, let’s celebrate another inanimate object from your past. The bike.
I must have been about 7 years old in this photo. It’s hard not be distracted by the rusty swing, and the glory of my wrinkly Nora Batty socks-teamed-with-red-Scholls combo does also rather upstage my beautiful two-wheeled friend, but just look at her – what a beauty!
And here’s a second view (and a second hideous 1970s outfit) to show off my mean machine again. This time we’re on our back yard. Nice eh?
Bikes were always a major part of our childhood when we were growing up. There was simply nothing better than feeling the burning pain in your legs as you fought to keep up with your big brother & pals, cycling off in to the sunset with their tongues sticking out at you. Ah, those were the days.
Later, it became a convenient way to reach a friend’s house, but by the age of 14 it had clearly lost its ‘cool’. Apparently, so had I.
Remember when you woke up on Christmas Day and it was there, all shiny and gleaming? Maybe it had streamers dangling from it, or, like mine, was actually made of GOLD (still just as naive today)! Whatever and wherever you were, tell us about you and your bike.
Share your memories with us – either write a blog post and link it up (the Linky will stay open for some time yet, so no need to rush), or just share your memories with us in the comments if you prefer – you don’t have to have a Blog to play! Everyone welcome here. Consider it therapy. But do tell your friends!
