This post is part of a weekly series of ‘link-up’ Posts which reflect on life’s journey, old memories and family stories (see below for more info).
A day rarely passes for us 21st Century folk when we haven’t been taking photos or video with our mobile devices. It’s not that long ago when home movies were a thing that had to be taken on actual rolls of film and then transferred to actual video cassettes so that you could watch them back.
If I go back even further, the memories become sweeter still. My parents were one of the few who had a really bad ‘cine’ film habit. When we were kids you could regularly find one of us playing the lead in some home-cooked drama, filmed by my dad, complete with hand-written titles and credits. It’s always special to find a photo of yourself from the distant past, but rarer and more special still to find moving pictures. There’s something wonderful about seeing a person that no longer exists coming to life on a tiny screen and speaking in a voice which you no longer recognise!
This was taken in 1970. I’m the Blondie. It brings a lump to my throat when I see my Mum, so alive and young, holding out her arms to us both. Wow, thank you for the gift of cine film.
So this week, we’re talking Home Movies. Maybe there’s a video you found of your now-grown kids from when they were tiny; perhaps you have a black and white classic of a previous generation; or like me, a cine film archive that will be treasured and handed down to the next generation?
Whatever your Home Movie, share the memories with us – either write a blog post and link it up (the Linky will stay open for some time yet, so no need to rush), or just share your memories with us in the comments if you prefer – you don’t have to have a Blog to play! Everyone welcome here. Consider it therapy. But do tell your friends!
