This post is part of a weekly series of ‘link-up’ Posts which reflect on life’s journey, old memories and family stories (see below for more info).
And so it begins.
The long, slow lead up to Christmas. My just-learning-to-write 5 year old has already penned an intelligible letter to Santa, and the ‘how many sleeps’ countdown has begun. The latter is rendered quite tricky since he can’t actually count to 100 in a forwards direction without help, let alone backwards.
I have made a translation of the Christmas list, for your benefit and for posterity rather than for Santa, since I am sure the elves are more than capable of interpreting the skwibble into a solid ‘to do’ list.
“For Crismus Ay Wd Layc (repeated a bit) A Jayunt Goldun Sooper Scaylandr and a scooter. And I wod Layc drums, sum Wayuldcors, A Bit Bigr Bayc (a bit bigger bike), a Daf Mul Soot (Darth Maul suit) and a Darf Mul Dubl Latsebr (Darth Maul double lightsabre).”
I’m lucky enough to have my own childhood list to compare it too. Thus.
It’s not the writing that I’m comparing (although I was slightly horizontally challenged), but the contents. Greed must surely run in the family. I never did get that Katy Copy Cat. Come to think of it, I never had a Wendy House either. The doll’s house then? Na. Damn you, Santa.
Are your babies making their lists already? Can you remember the excitement of writing that letter to the North Pole when you were a child?
Share your memories with us in this week’s Link Up – either write a blog post and link it up (the Linky will stay open for some time yet, so no need to rush), or just share your memories with us in the comments if you prefer – you don’t have to have a Blog to play! Everyone welcome here. Consider it therapy. But do tell your friends!
